This year the Skirball Center is presenting an outstanding film series: Latin Jewish Life in Film.

I have  really enjoyed their selection this year and I hope you can  catch one of their films.

So far, these two are my favorites:

Olga is a masterpiece production directed by the brasilian director Jayme Monjardim. The movie is based on the life of Olga Benario Prestes, a Jewish-German comunist activist, who was condemn by the germans and her own mother because of her political beliefs.

Olga went to Brazil with the communist leader, Luis Carlos Prestes, (she was in charge of his security)and together they led a Communist coup in the country in 1935 when Brasil was ruled by a dictactor.
The film show the abuse, the unfairness and discrimination again jews and people with different political afiliations. The couple fall in love but is separated by the war and other circumstances.
My favorite film so far:
Don’t miss the next one coming up on April 16th
