Los Angeles’ GRAMMY Winning Musical Ambassadors Of A Young Bilingual / Bicultural Generation Will Release:
“I WON’T CRY FOR YOU”
on August 28th
Continuing both the band’s work with multiple Grammy winning producer Sebastian Krys, and their distinctive musical fusion of mainstream English, and traditional Mexican musical genres, “I WON’T CRY FOR YOU” finds the always colorful quartet adding a propulsive rhythm of old school Swing Jazz to their unique blend of pop, rock, accordion driven Norteño and the signature rich vocal range of heralded singer La Marisoul. Arriving August 28th, the single will soon be followed by the band’s next Spanish language single release in September.
Look for La Santa Cecilia to perform September 11th at The 2015 World Music Festival in Chicago, October 8th at The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s 38th Annual Awards Gala on Thursday, October 8, 2015, in Washington, D.C., and at other upcoming dates found here:
“La Santa Cecilia can touch down in Mexican cumbia, banda and polka, but also delves into tango, traditional merengue, reggae and American soul. All of those possibilities are in easy reach of Ms. Hernandez’s soulful voice, which can summon a bluesy rasp or a sultry ache, exult in her devotion or laugh off a broken heart”
– Sunday New York Times
“Musicians Who Won’t Be Boxed In: La Santa Cecilia has become a critical darling. Their romantic lyrics touch on working-class and immigrant struggles to pay the bills, evade deportation and realize their dreams… La Marisol lights up the stage with her powerful, velvety voice” – Wall Street Journal
“Los Angeles’ Best Latin Alternative Band – If there is one band that represents the multicultural mix of Los Angeles, it’s La Santa Cecilia. … ‘La Marisoul’ has one of the most powerful voices, in any genre” – LA Weekly
“La Santa Cecilia have made genre and language boundaries — regional and international — elastic and have created a bold, buoyant, international pop music….all killer, no filler – 4 STARS” – All Music
“La Santa Cecilia have gone from performing on the streets of Los Angeles to being called The Best Latin Alternative Band of the year. Using their Latin roots and infusing it with a modern alternative sound, La Santa Cecilia have really captured audiences and famous artists like Elvis Costello” – ET
The Patron Saints of Genre-Bending, La Santa Cecilia are LA’s next big Latino band. The new It Group just might be the best of them all … …Marisoul possesses a husky voice that can switch from roaring to weeping within seconds à la Janis Joplin, but who delivers with the grace of Ella Fitzgerald.” – OC Weekly

“They began as buskers on downtown Olvera Street, immigrant and working-class Latino kids singing ‘Besame Mucho’ and ‘Sabor a Mí’ …So when the members of La Santa Cecilia took to the stage to receive the Grammy Award for best Latin rock or alternative recording, they had come a lot further than just a couple of miles. In that moment of triumph, they didn’t forget their roots, dedicating their win to ‘the more than 11 million undocumented people that live and work really hard in this country, and that still need to lead a more dignified life.’ …[La Santa Cecilia’s music is] an eclectic mixture of original material, traditional songs and covers sung in Spanish and English, meant to get listeners dancing and thinking at the same time, embracing a modern sensibility while also evoking the old. …The members of La Santa Cecilia, named for the patron saint of music, were raised fully bilingual and bicultural. They cite a dizzying array of music that influenced them, growing up: Nirvana, Santana, Rush, punk rock and reggae and, on the classic Latin side, Ramón Ayala, Trio Los Panchos, Los Alegres de Terán, cumbia and boleros. The band members describe their own sound as a guisado, or stew, blending all those influences into a savory bilingual mix.” – New York Times (Cover Profile)
